Erik’s inner monologue: “Puppy eyes, think puppy eyes, you know he can’t resist them. Yes! It’s working, no wait, you look too smug, remember Puppy Eyes. Sexy puppy eyes! There we go! Thank G-d he can’t read my mind right now!”

i always wonder at what point erik makes his decision about what he’s going to do in paris. does he know, already, when he’s reaching out to charles on the plane? is he still trying, knowing tomorrow it will be over, that once he does what he (thinks he) has to do, charles will hate him forever anyway, but it’s still worth this now? hm.

You know, it’s funny because the last time I saw the film, I watched this scene closely specifically for that very reason. Did Erik know, at this point, that he was going to have to sacrifice Mystique? Even as he sat with Charles and spoke about her fondly, and played chess like old times?

At the end of the scene the camera lingers on Erik’s face for a long, lingering pause which someone gifed beautifully here:

There’s something in his expression, I think at least, that speaks to a kind of painful resolve. Charles has awkwardly begun to play chess, their old friendship has sort of rekindled, or at least begun to mend, and yet I feel like I can see in Erik’s expression a kind of regret…possibly for what he’s about to do? And for what he’s about to lose all over again?

The first time I watched this scene I thought he was doing this for Charles; that this attempt, painful and stilted and not nearly enough, was Erik’s way of apologizing and reaching out. To give Charles something, small at it is to hold on to when things inevitably go sideways again.

But that doesn’t really make sense does it? Because Erik has to know that if he kills Mystique he’ll lose Charles for good (yes I know Charles forgives a lot in movie canon but killing the sister he’s loved his whole life? I’m going to say no). So why bother at all? When these mere moments on the plane can be so easily swept away by Charles (in his anger) as Erik being insincere or downright manipulative?

Which leads me to think that Erik is reaching out because it’s what Erik needs. Because he’s had 10 years of missing Charles already; of wanting to see his face and hear his voice and be close to him - physically and emotionally. Like he needs this like water and wants this like air; this tiny moment of intimacy because he knows he won’t have it again. Like Charles is the oasis in the desert that is Erik’s life…

Glad I’m not interested. Keep letting us know how it is. Is he that bad at social media?

I was actually just browsing reddit and saw the post and was like “oh fuck me I missed andrew scott’s…

i asked that question ^

sorry that it was an awful question and it got answered, but i didn’t think he’d reply and it’s all i could think of. idk i feel kinda shit that he answered my worst question and it wasn’t even a proper answer :(

i love him, but that AMA really wasn’t great

actually it’s not a bad question imo. It’s one of those random humour questions where u would hope celebs answer in the most interesting way possible (rmb benedict’s ama with the zygoma thing?). I just dun feel like he’s putting effort answering those questions, which is kinda sad =(

thanks, at least he replied to me i guess… my friend thought he might have answered like that just because he didn’t want people to ship him with Ben or something.. idk >.<

well there’s the “do you ship sheriarty” question haha.  if you check on that post now on reddit everyone is just hating … idk maybe his PR problem maybe not. That AMA will soon be forgotten for sure though.

What it was going to be, we were trying to complicate the relationship between Cap and his S.H.I.E.L.D agent friends. If Hawkeye got a call from S.H.I.E.L.D saying Captain America is a fugitive, would he listen to that call or not listen to that call? That sequence actually was heartbreaking for us to cut it. I think it ultimately might have been a conflict with Renner’s schedule. But there was a great sequence where Hawkeye was chasing Cap through Washington D.C. there was an awesome sequence where they confronted each other in a ravine on the outskirts of D.C. and Hawkeye was shooting a series of arrows closing in on Cap, Cap closing in on him. And then Cap took him down and he realized for the first time that Hawkeye was trying to trick S.H.I.E.L.D, where he whispered something into Cap’s ear that Cap had a tracker on his suit and to punch Hawkeye to make it look real, because there was a Quinjet hovering above where they were watching the feedback back at S.H.I.E.L.D. So it was a cool sequence.

I was actually just browsing reddit and saw the post and was like “oh fuck me I missed andrew scott’s AMA”. It was just a mere 47 minutes w/ just 24 answers. All the answers are so boring, he didn’t answer most of the sherlock questions. The ones he answers are like

jesus, so apparently I (or the fandom) didn’t miss much (or anything) at all

Writing and reading fanfiction isn’t just something you do; it’s a way of thinking critically about the media you consume, of being aware of all the implicit assumptions that a canonical work carries with it, and of considering the possibility that those assumptions might not be the only way things have to be.

At this late date, fanfiction has become wildly more biodiverse that the canonical works that it springs from. It encompasses male pregnancy, centaurification, body swapping, apocalypses, reincarnation, and every sexual fetish, kink, combination, position, and inversion you can imagine and probably a lot more that you could but would probably prefer not to. It breaks down walls between genders and genres and races and canons and bodies and species and past and future and conscious and unconscious and fiction and reality. Culturally speaking, this work used to be the job of the avant garde, but in many ways fanfiction has stepped in to take that role. If the mainstream has been slow to honor it, well, that’s usually the fate of aesthetic revolutions. Fanfiction is the madwoman in mainstream culture’s attic, but the attic won’t contain it forever.
